Valentine's day, A day filled with Heart shaped boxes of chocolates, Cards, and bunches of Roses. A day that is supposedly looked forward to by women and dreaded by men. Frankly, it's a holiday, similar to most holiday's that is been so over commercialized that it's a day with no real meaning behind and something we always just go though due to it being a tradition. I don't think it has to be that way
There is to much importance placed how materialistic elements of the holiday. What gifts did you buy, how many flowers, and how fancy a restaurant was the date held at. The only real importance on this day should be your significant other. Isn't it supposed to be a day about the love that you share with them and how important they are? Why do we place so much importance on things rather than people? Don't get me wrong I like getting gifts and it can be a good way to show someone you care for them. However, on this day I think it's become to much of an importance.
For this years Valentine's day my wife and I kept it simple and it was the best V-day that I have had in awhile. We built a blanket fort, watched movies, and just talked to each other. We didn't worry about getting each other gifts or going out for a nice dinner. All we wanted to do was spend some time with each other. My wife,Ashleigh Spencer, is the best thing in my life. She is beautiful, smart, and funny. She understands me better than anyone and no matter how rough life gets; she helps makes it worth it. I use to hate Valentine's day but being with her has helped me realize that it doesn't have to be the day that capitalism has made it. It can just be about being with on that you love. So next year instead of worrying about the superficial aspects of the day and spend time with your significant other. Because in the end that is the only thing that matters.

Well said Jason and very true. People are always more important than "stuff". You and Ashleigh are off to a great start.
